Comfort, explained
Inflatable vs. gel vs. memory foam seat cushions
Choose a seat cushion by the way you use it: whether it needs to pack down, whether you want to adjust the firmness, and how its shape fits your seat. Air, gel and memory foam work differently.
The main differences at a glance
This comparison covers three Relvie designs: Air Cell, HoneyCore and U-Cutout. It compares their construction and features; individual comfort depends on the person and the chair.
| What matters | Air Cell: inflatable | HoneyCore: gel | U-Cutout: memory foam |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cushioning | 24 raised air cells | Flexible, open honeycomb gel grid | Contoured memory foam with an integrated raised back |
| Adjustability | Add or release air to change firmness | The gel flexes under seated weight; no air level to adjust | Shaped foam seat and back; no inflation adjustment |
| Packing | Deflates between trips | Keeps its physical gel structure when packed | One-piece foam design that does not deflate |
| Setup | Inflate using the built-in pump | No pump or inflation needed | No pump or inflation needed |
| Seat shape | Under-seat cushion; listed footprint 44 × 44 cm | Gel seat pad with a removable zip cover | Rear U-shaped opening plus a raised back |
| Start here if… | You want adjustable air cushioning that packs down for a journey | You want an everyday gel layer without inflation | You want a shaped seat and back in one cushion |

For flights and a small carry-on
An inflatable design is worth considering when reducing bulk between uses matters. Air Cell can be deflated for packing, and the built-in pump means there is no separate pump to carry. Its listed 44 × 44 cm footprint is a starting point for checking seat fit; thickness changes with the air level.
HoneyCore and U-Cutout remain gel and foam objects in your luggage. Before choosing either for a trip, check the actual space available in your bag and the shape of the seat you will use.

For everyday sitting without inflation
HoneyCore uses a flexible honeycomb grid with spaces for airflow. Its removable zip cover provides a fabric surface over the gel. If your priority is a contoured seat with a raised back, U-Cutout has both in one memory-foam piece. Check how that raised back fits against the chair before choosing.
If a cushion feels too firm
Air Cell lets you change the amount of air instead of accepting one inflation level. Add air gradually, then release a little if the feel is too firm. More air is not automatically more comfortable. See how to adjust and pack Air Cell.
Seat cushioning and lower-back cushioning are different
A seat cushion goes under you. A separate inflatable lumbar cushion goes behind your lower back. U-Cutout has an integrated raised back, while Air Cell and HoneyCore are seat cushions. Choose the shape for the part of the seat you want to change.
Check these before buying
- The usable width and depth of your chair or travel seat.
- The cushion's height once you are sitting on it.
- Available luggage space and whether deflation matters to you.
- The selected offer's quantity, accessories, price and return terms.
Comfort is personal. These design differences help narrow the choice; they do not establish that one cushion will be best for every body or every seat.
